We're treating guests to an exciting range of new displays to our exhibition spaces this summer.
Since opening in 2017 we've welcomed almost one million visitors to our exhibition which tells the remarkable story of bringing electricity to the Highlands of Scotland in the 1940s.
Last year we unveiled a new salmon observation point to showcase how our renewables colleagues help the species migrate through our hydro assets in Scotland.
Now visitors young and old will be treated to some exciting new stories including how we’re helping ospreys and bumble bees as well as three new interactive games.
Visitor Centre Manager, Deborah Ryan, said: “Our current exhibition has been warmly received by almost one million visitors and as we approach that outstanding milestone, it’s important that we continue to appeal to returning visitors and with new exhibition content we can continue to do so.”
SSE Head of Heritage, Gillian O’Reilly, added: “The visitor centre highlights the achievements of our hydro predecessors 80 years ago. Now we want to showcase the work of SSE today building new overhead infrastructure to transport power from where it is made to where it is needed. We have deliberately invested in different media types to bring that story to life and appeal to all ages so there should be something for everyone.”
The new exhibits include:
Two new case studies demonstrating how SSE colleagues have created safe environments for their neighbouring ospreys and bumble bees
Three new interactive games designed for all the family including Biodiversity Net Gain, Building a Transmission Line and Keeping the Lights On.
Colourful wall mural with content for younger visitors around Biodiversity and Transmission landscapes.
Map showing Transmission network developments to 2030
The visitor centre is currently open seven days a week from 10am to 4.30pm.
